Opportunities

We have a range of opportunities in the lab for children and young adults with neurodevelopmental conditions, neurotypical adult listeners, and students at the university.

Study Participation for Children with Neurodevelopmental Conditions

We are recruiting children and young adults for several different studies in the lab. We are seeking the following types of people:

  • Individuals with Spinal Muscular Atrophy aged between 2 and 17 years who have received disease modifying medical treatment (SPARK-SMA)
  • Children with cerebral palsy or a related motor diagnosis aged between 3 and 7 years who have severe motor involvement and limited speaking ability (GLEAM)
  • Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy or a related motor diagnosis aged between 7 and 17 who have a significant speech impairment, but use speech as a mode of communication (SPEAK).

Study Participation for Neurotypical Adults

We are always recruiting listeners to make ratings of speech intelligibility. This is an in-person opportunity to come to the WISC Lab.

You are eligible if are:

  • 18-45 years of age
  • A native speaker (English)
  • Have normal hearing
  • Have no known disabilities

Student Involvement

Students are an essential part of our work. We have undergraduate, graduate, and post doctoral trainees in the lab. Trainee involvement can take several different forms:

  • Undergraduate scholarly projects for independent study or honors thesis credit
  • Paid student hourly positions
  • Unpaid volunteer opportunities
